Beth Dreyer Photography Blog bio picture
  • Hi I'm Beth! Welcome to my blog! I am a Dallas, TX based custom baby, child and family photographer. I'm also a mom of two boys who strives to be fabulous {while managing snot, drool and spit up}, organic {in a chemically overdosed culture}, budget conscious {in a spendy metroplex}, keep up with a house {with a hectic schedule} and stay sane on top of all that. I write about all of those topics here in addition to posting all of my latest photography.

Fashion Friday

Stripes again!  Yay for stripes!  This past weekend we took the kids up to a super fun driving range called Top Golf.  The boys loooove driving balls.  I of course use the term ‘driving’ loosely here.  Jake does pretty well and I am about as miserable at it as my four year old…  But we had fun!

Simple Problem Solver: Honey in a Ketchup Bottle

Every now and then you come up with something that saves you time, stickiness, ants and expletives and you just have to share it.  Here’s one of mine:-)  I love honey.  Honey, honey, honey.  I put about two tablespoons (I know!!) of honey in my Earl Grey every morning and my husband and kids enjoy more moderate amounts of honey in their tea as well.  Yes my children drink tea.  I make them their own little version of decaf Earl with honey and lots of milk and they love it!

Well since we go through so much {local, raw, unfiltered} honey, the cute little bear bottle just don’t cut it.  I’d be through with that baby in a week.  I’ve started buying the larger bottles.  Soon I’m going to have to start purchasing it by the gallon I’m afraid.  Anyway, the problem with the big container is it’s lid.  When you pour honey out of the lid, honey POURS out of that lid.  Then it slides down the sides of the bottle leaving a trail of sticky residue behind.  Before long, no matter how much you try, you end up with a sticky bottle and ants in your cupboard.

One day while walking through the grocery store with my family, we passed the condiment aisle and like a wild woman I dashed over to the ketchup.  Of COURSE!  The upside down, squeezable ketchup bottle would be perfect for my honey conundrum!  And at $1.97, I didn’t mind pouring out the contents just so I could use the bottle.  Now when I stop squeezing, the honey stops comin’!  Praise Him.

Fashion Friday

I love this skirt.  I bought it from Anthropologie about seven years ago back when Jake and I were dating and we lived in Colorado.  Those were the days.  Back then, if I was having a rough day, I’d drive myself up to Denver, which took about an hour from where I lived, for some shopping therapy.  I’d sail into Anthropologie, soak up the aura of creative display, beautiful clothes and intoxicating smells and treat myself to something from the sale rack.  It was on one such indulgent day that I bought this skirt.  This skirt traveled with me to Asia and has seen me through marriage and two children.  It’s a great summer skirt.  If you look closely at the photos you can see that there are several small stains on the front of it, which makes it perfect for the stage of life I currently enjoy.  Gone are the days of sailing into Anthropologie to console myself with a new skirt on a bad day.  Now I console myself by putting the boys to bed early and taking a bath.  I do however plan to come full circle on this one eventually!  Yes siree, except when I come back around I’ll be buying something from any rack, not just the sale rack;-)

Alice | Grapevine Senior Photography

Alice is 18 {happy birthday Alice!} and just decided to attend MSU.  She’ll be graduating in just a few short weeks!  We took these photos at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad and then just up Main outside the theater where she used to perform as a child.  It was a delight working with Alice and her mom on this session.  Congratulations Alice!

After we did some shots around the railroad, we went down the street to the Lancaster Theater where Alice used to act in plays.  While we were there, some kids came out that she used to perform with!  It was meaningful for Alice and her mom to have photos taken outside of that theater where they used to spend so much time.
