  • Hi I'm Beth! Welcome to my blog! I am a Dallas, TX based custom baby, child and family photographer. I'm also a mom of two boys who strives to be fabulous {while managing snot, drool and spit up}, organic {in a chemically overdosed culture}, budget conscious {in a spendy metroplex}, keep up with a house {with a hectic schedule} and stay sane on top of all that. I write about all of those topics here in addition to posting all of my latest photography.

Chalkboard Wall

One warm Saturday morning about a month ago, I woke up at 5:30 in the morning with a wild hare to paint a chalk board wall in my kitchen.  Has that ever happened to you?  By 7:00 I had it all taped off and ready to go.  Two coats of chalkboard paint later, it was done the next day.  Sometimes you’ve just gotta get up and paint something!

Although I finished painting it on Sunday, I believe I waited about three days to write on it.  First I rubbed the whole thing down with the long side of a piece of chalk to season it.  Then wiped it all down with a dry rag and then wrote on it.

I started pinning chalkboard wall photos on Pinterest almost as soon as I joined.  Who doesn’t love the idea of a wall you can write on??  Right now, I need daily reminders to have faith instead of self pity (just being honest) so having a giant chalkboard in my kitchen where I can write passages of scripture is a good thing for me.  I did take some before pictures, but for the life of me I don’t know where they went!  Imagine this wall with not that black paint on it.  Also imagine that my kitchen has better lighting.:)

Here’s a pullback where you can see the whole kitchen.  It’s a fun little corner, no?  And you know what, I’m just going to take a second and pat my self on the back because when I took this picture, my kitchen really did look like this.  I didn’t have to straighten it up to be photographed!  That would not be the case if I were to photograph my kitchen today however…
